The thing to remember is trying to prevent any kind of tangle hazard that may get the dog hung up where he can't get to that shade and water. In high temps that is certain death..
That has been my biggest problem with the ideas i have had. Going out from the side, it would have to have something to support it. But having the support or leg, the dog could wrap the chain around it and either get tangled or pull it down.
Having the whole sheet on the ground would eliminate that problem, and the way they are set up on the fence, they wouldnt be able to get behind it and get tangled. Then, the only problem i would have is that i have their water buckets wired to the fence to keep them from knocking them over, so that would be harder to fill them since i dont have a water hose that runs that far.
