Well I haven't lost Dixie...yet. She was 13 years old last March 23rd and is still around the house. All she does now is lay on the porch and occasionally babysit a pup or two. Here is a pic of her taken about two years ago. Since this pic she has started to look more like me....about 20 lbs too heavy and getting grey in the face..........
But you are right, she is the standard I compare all my other dogs to. So far, I have not owned her equal. But thats what keeps me raising a litter of pups every few years....HOPE!!
She had cancer and survived, been spayed, cut numerous times, operated on a few times, stapled and sewn a bunch and is living the retired life now. But I have 5 full size photo albums full of pictures of hogs caught with her, so when she is gone and I am old (er) I can sit in a rocking chair and think about all the good times we had. And just be thankful I owned at least one good dog in my life.
Dixie at about 10-11 years old.
