Ok I really didn't tell the whole story and it's kinda funny. It was really a stupid accident that I even got that buck. So here goes. I was hunting with my brother at the time and had to borrow one of his guns cause I didn't have one that season. It was a savage bolt action 30/06. I had never even shot this gun before and wasn't familar with it. Well the hunt began well before daylight cause I wanted to get to my secret spot early. As soon as I got out of the truck I loaded the gun and chamberd a round or so I thought. When I pulled the bolt back to chamber a round I didn't pull it back all the way so a bullet never got in the chamber.
So here I am sitting at my favorite spot on public land wating for the sun to come up and shortly after sunrise here comes this doe hauling ass coming straight at me. I'm well cammoed leaning against a tree by a trail and she almost ran over me. I'll never froget she was so out of breath that her toung was hanging out of her mouth like a worn out cur. Well when she got at point blank range I mean right at my feet I squeezed the trigger. Click ! Dangit.... I didn't have a bullet chambered. She almost jumped out of her fur when that gun clicked and she saw me. Well she ran off and I'm sitting ther trying to figure out what happend. Then it hits me she's a hot doe and she's probably running from a buck that I just haven't seen yet. I was right. So I get my game face back on right quick like and get ready. And sure enough about ten seconds later here he comes. This beautiful 11 pointer right in her tracks. He had his nose on the ground the whole time running and never did even look up. He looked like a hound dog on a hot trail. Well I was ready this time and when he got right in front of me I drawed fast and shot. He dropped in his tracks right at my feet. I haven't ever told that story cause I was embarassed about how it happend but It's one I'll always remember for sure.  Smiley
