I didnt read every post in this thread, but in response to the original question.
When a bulldog quits like that Im done with him. I have seen a few bulldogs that would catch good but ended up not being able to take a cutting. I would hate to know I was belly crawling through vines up on a big boar and and my dog wussed out.
Too many good dogs out there to mess with something that will quit.
