I have mixed feelings on that subject, because the papers are only as good as the integrity of the person selling or registering the dog. They can be swapped and falsified, and all that.
However, I feel that the papers are just a paper trail to show the dogs lineage, its a way to trace back the generations, and hopefully be able to keep records that may be lost if oner individual in the chain of a long line is no longer able to communicate to pass on the lineage. So its just another tool, only works if used properly.
If I die today, who will know what and how my junk got to where it is now? Well if I do, yall can look in my computer as I have a pedigree software that has it all down, and notes on what type/style of hunter the dogs are.
I know where two dogs are right now that are supposedly out of full registerd stock, the husband passed away, the papers weren't kept up, and the man that was given the pups by the widow, won't pass on the rest of the info to fully trace the dogs down, to know how these dogs could be line bred again to keep the same great traits , I totally appreciate in these dogs. If the papers could be tracked and relatives could be found I would use the dogs in my Registerd stock to hopefully build better dogs on already really good dogs.
