There is no question the Ranger has more performance than the Mule. ie top end, smoother suspension, and more ground clearance.  Can't beat the Ranger for hauling butt across a rough pasture either.  I think of the Mule like more of a workhorse, and less of a fun machine.  The Ranger is probable the best blend of utility and performance...and that is hard for me to say, because I really don't like Polaris products ....and I almost bought one a month ago...
