I have a bag with the following:
- Tampons "Heavy" - Hemostats - Surgical Scissors - Betadine (sp) - Gauze Pads - Cat Gut - Staples - Scalpels - Staple puller - Lg Syringe - "room temp" bottled waters/saline - Rymadil - Lydocaine spray
There isnt much that you cannot stop with a tampon and a staple gun as far as punctures go but I wouldnt leave them in more than 24 hours with out changing or just taking out and restapling after you clean it.
I have found it is hard to keep a clean shirt in the truck but if you can get a long sleeve t-shirt and keep it clean it is very helpful in many situations, especially stomach wounds that require rides to the vet.
IMO the blood clot is a waste, I have never personally had any luck - the best advice I was ever given was to plug the hole ASAP and apply as much pressure as possible. The only luck I have ever had with it was on small cuts that didnt amount to much in the first place.
