I think their nose is better than the avg. cur. Bottom I would say depends on the dog. I never tried mine on the hood, but one of mine yipped and jumped from the front seat out the window one time. I was going around 30 mph and I thought it killed her. When I stopped I couldn't find her. About 5 minutes later she opened up in the woods and was bayed. I never had any problems with them taking a cut bad. Multiple times, the first one I had would be in the hogs mouth when I got there and she would be latched on to the hogs face. She would limp on hunting after the hog was handled.
