i also have a small 10 hp older boat motor it starts if you spray card sleaner in the carb and dies out. Sure the carb just needs cleaning. Im in port lavaca.
if anyone interested in this, i'm bout 99% positive the float valve is stuck from the way it's described and like he mentioned, just needs the complete carb cleaned. sounds like a good deal if somebody needs it.
I picked up a almost new generator doing the exact same thing really cheap and was just the valve stuck. good cleaning and it's like new again.
