Get the other land owners to go with u to his house talk to him personally.  Bet with them there he will sign the contract and u would be set or heck invite him to go lol might come that yall would be good friends.  Lol am joking to an extent but an invite sometimes even makes the worse hard number 2 come around.  Just an idea
