I've seen plenty of dogs in the woods that people were hunting. They referred to them as finished. I agree with them, I was finished hunting around them.
As for the question, I have seen some good dogs get sold because the owners were getting out. The dog was still legitimate, just found a new owner. "High" price is very open. Someone that hunts free dogs, would say $2000 is a lot for a dog. Someone that spends $600-800 on an 8 week old pup, would beg to differ. Different strokes for different folks. Find what you like and hunt it hard.
