Imo jdt it let's the hog know they are right on his tail and not 500 yards back.  It may not make a difference but if you don't have dogs that will role 3 miles on a hog maybe a mile you need every advantage you can get.  This is me and how my dogs work so I want total silence till face to face but again this is jmo so please don't take it the wrong way
