Catch dog question

How long have you had the dog? Let the dog get used to you and your dogs. Don't let him get roughed up by a pig, he may not ever turn on if you let him get hurt/roughed up right now. Does he show.any interest in anything else? What does he do when the pig squeals? Sometimes a dog is timid and needs a lot of reinforcement from their handler letting them know that getting the pig is what you want and once their confidence is up.their natural drive will show. I have owned alot of bulldog and have seen some that did not "turn on" til they were three or so. Patience is the key to getting this dog to work for you in this situation. There will be a lot of people on this board that will tell you to just cull him and be done but if you have the time to wait give him a chance. There are a lot of different things that could cause him to be nervous and not want to get in there and catch. How many times has the dog changed hands? How was he treated where he came from? Was he just a "pet" at the place where he came from? Etc. Some dogs never turn on and some just take a little patience. You are starting with a two year old that you didn't raise so it may take a little while.
