I read a book when I was a kid that was a collection of letters from Texas Rangers during the plains wars and manifest destiny and several rangers claimed to have roped black bear in northeast Texas. My cousin who used to be the game manager at a northeast TX ranch that I can't spell but I think it was broseco? Had a painting on his wall of a couple cowhands double teaming a black bear and stretching it out. Cool pic. I bet you'd be alright.
