everyone pretty much agrees on most but I will only talk about the RCD and Help dog also known as the "me too" dog. A few people call a me too dog a pack dog because it might not hunt but will run with the pack. The "pack" also means all the dogs that are running/hunting together which also includes the strike dogs.

To some a RCD is a solid catch dog that can be walked in. I wouldn't want one of these running and hunting with the pack especially if it is a pack that is long range. The reasons are that this dog doesn't bark so don't know when he catches a boar and then he can get the pack hurt or killed because they will help in catching and the hunter wouldn't be around to help out.
Also a running catch dog better be straight on hogs and not trash on cows or other livestock because this dog can do some serious damage to livestock and this can get you kicked off the property faster than anything...

I used to think a RCD was a dog that was super rough or gritty and would catch a sow or young boar but would keep a boar stopped. Some folks on here call these dogs rough bay dogs... and these folks see gritty and rough as having different meanings which I used to think that these two words basicly meant the same thing. So I stand corrected. Smiley

Now that I know the difference I prefer a rough cur dog/bulldog mix for a rough bay dog or Me Too dog. I want this dog to have enough grit or be rough enough to stop a bad hog yet be sensible enough to not get injured or at least keep the injuries to a minimum.

I like strike dogs that can do it all but the right pack dog or rough bay dog or me too dog or whatever you want to call him can be value added to the pack because this dog can shorten the races...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
A hunting dog is born not made...
