Defenitely give the dog a break... then, as everybody else said try and build the dog back up with easy hogs.
Another reason to be careful what older dogs you run a young dog with... I've been trying to let my young dogs learn on their own, rather than allowing a more advanced dog to put them into a situation they ain't ready for as yours wasn't...
... takes a dog longer to figure things out like this, but I feel they, more often than not, are able to bay hogs they can handle... progressively more difficult hogs each time...
