purebred dogs tend to get fatal diseases more often than mongrels...If I understood what I read years ago is that the mongrel has more diversity when it comes to genes and this naturally helps the dog in fighting off disease.

When I was a kid I did not worm my pups nor gave them shots and most lived. My pack was always mongrels that people through away down our road in the middle of nowhere. Well once I got and old time rat terrier and a catahoula type and both were bad to the bone...
