I havent read all 5 pages of this thread but I would like to say that two of our best hog dogs were given to us by an old cowboy who was fixing to cull them as cowdogs because they were too rough on the cattle. He told me that a dog that was bred for cattle but was on the rough side would make a good hog dog, and danged if he wasn't right.

I wouldn't trade those two for anything. These two were still young when we got them but he said that he could already tell that they were going to be too rough. THey are our Red and Sweetpea, full brother and sister.
That is how most of the dogs we use in florida come about.
