Good chance it is a spider bite. Some dogs are pretty alergic to spiders and that will happen to them. Only know this because a cousin had a bird dog that was bitten by a spider and that sounds exactly what happened to her. He was flushing it with something but dont know what it was. It took her a few months to recover and then hair never did grow back right in that one spot. The water will probally do the best because of flushin out dead cells and letting the new grow.
