Personally it wouldn't bother me much.  Like Paul said, a good many of the best dogs I've owned and hunted around have been pretty stand-offish.  But there's also a difference between a dog thats scared, and one that just doesn't much care to be handled....The latter honestly being my preference.

I feed my hunting dogs to leave and go hunt, not hang around and be my friend.  Trust me, your friends won't mind much at the end of the day if it takes a few minutes to get your dog loaded up when it's the one that just put on the show.
