I had a good AIREDALE a few years ago. A real cold nosed trail dog. Very rough on hogs though. Mine would fight a hog, rather than just catch it.
I have had trouble trying to locate another one since. I would get another one right now, if I could find one from a real hunter. They are mostly over-priced, show dogs and over-sized pets, useless in the woods. Do your homework, because there are some good ones out there.
Buy a good comb and trimmers before you get a shaggy one. I forget the name of the comb but it takes out the dead hair underneath, and helps cool the dog off.
