We had a yellow dog named Chubby that hunted far better during the day than at night, we used to joke that he needed a flash light as he wasn't going too far from the truck if it was dark but he would hunt all day long with no hitch.
I agree with DJ, we try to take our puppies as much as possible at night and you can tell they are not as confident in the dark as they are in the day light until they become accustomed.

I have noticed over the years that dark moonless nights produce less hogs than brighter nights...
