Never used a garmin but had extensive compus work in army. I can tell you that in the southern united states magnetic north vs. true north makes no difference unless your talking about pin point accuracy (I.e. plus or minus a few yards). The many orienteering courses I had to navigate it just didn't make a difference. Of course I am talking about a magnetic compus not something digital so what do I know.
