the mtn curs I used to raise loved all game especially deer...it was easy enough breaking them off of other off game but deer was another story...I then came up with the cattle prod idea.

I had a deer mount which I tacked on the back side of the mount a white paper towel, a white handkerchief will also work. I then pour a little deer scent on the towel and then walk up to the pup or dog and make sure he can smell the scent...each time the towel touches the pup I light him up. I do it 3 times back to back...come back about three days later and do it again...once the pup or pups smell the deer scent they are looking for a way out...

about 3 days alter I walk up again and only touch them one...I usually wait until the pups are about 6 months old and have been baying a pig in the bay pen or a staged hunt...

might have to refresh their memory in a few months but very unlikely...

don't have to use a deer mount... a 3 or 4 ft. long stick with the towel tied to the end of it will work...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
A hunting dog is born not made...
