I believe it has a lot to do with the hog its self. I have raised a litter of piglets in 100 acre pin and 3 were good boars at 3 years old. I learned a lot from watching them with the dogs. One would stand his ground and fight anything, one would run for 20 to 30 minutes then bay with almost no fight, and the last one would run for hours. These three boars were off a rank russian boar and sow they would stand their ground and fight a dog if it gets to close. The hogs had a lot of puppies trained on them and I could tell people which boar the dogs were on with in five minutes just by how the dogs were moving.
