short range is quarter mile circle which is 200 yards in any one direction from the handler, medium range is 800 yard circle and 400 yards in any direction from the handler. this dog is covering most of the property inside this circle and can start a decent track from anywhere in this area. This dog stays consistent with the pattern as long as the handler is moving or until a track is started.

anything more than 800 yards is a long range dog and I consider this dog one that hunts more for itself and not the master...
