Noah I'm gigging in water no deeper than my chest and the bottom is sand stone or other rocks, that's what's killing my gigs....my misses  Undecided The fish are carp and gar 99% of the time that usually range about 4- 5 feet. I get lucky and spear some but when I throw the gig at'em and miss some times the gig slams rock and snaps some barbs off. What I see you using looks like single barb gigs, what I'm wanting is a broader gig with probably 4-6 barbs and about 4-6 inches wide that is hand thrown, it will be slower but compensate for my suckness at throwing into the water with it's extra barbs. I did get a cotton mouth today and one turtle by the head walking to our spot, but missed 2 pretty good fish, the 3rd snapped my barb when he started trying to roll on me and that ended our day.
