Best thing is to be extremely diligent about vaccinations (on both the bitch and the puppies). People think as long as the puppies are nursing they are protected which is false information. Puppies receive one dose of immunization from the bitch which comes in the form of the mothers colostrum (milk she produces initially after birth). If the bitch wasn't vaccinated properly prior to whelping, the pups won't receive much in the way of resistance.
