I have a rem 870 that used to be real bad about gettin light rust on it. And I used to be a manual machinist and I would take a pass at .002 and used the string shavins from that just cause I was scared to use regular steel wool it was a lot finer

Same here. I cant even look at my 870 with out it rusting. Lol took it duck hu ting once and that was the last time ill ever do that. Lol but yeah steel wool worked just fine on mine
