Since i was little i have always known a strike dog as one that finds its own pigs and stops them and will help after bulldogs get there. To be honest when i look for a strike dog i dont want a real gritty one. I i pay good money for a bad a$$ strike dog or if i train them the way i want i dont want to have to worry about every hunt them gettin cutt down. Then all i have put in goes to waste. Yes i know its part of hunting but id any day rather have a jam up strike dog that will get out and hunt hard find his own pigs stop them and keep em stopped till my big bulldogs get there. No need to try and cstch or pressure them to much. Everyone talks about how there hogs run and run amd run. That rarely happens with me and the people i hunt with. We have 1-2 damn good strike dogs and they dont pressure the hog. we dont have help dogs that will show up 2 min after the hog is stopped and barrel in and make the hog run. Its just 1-2 jam up strike dogs they bay till bulldogs get there amd by tje time the bulldogs get there ots all over. If they help cstch after bulldogs cool if not id have em roll out and have another track by the time hog is dead or hobbled. Everyone does it different tho. Where i am from strike and bay both find hogs but bay dont cstch.
