Was the dog by itself? Because I have a gyp that bays hard with other dogs but if she is alone just lets out an occasional bark like you said, and I had the same thing happen with her and a briar bush, the hog in the bush was god awful rank and could smell him but never see him and my gyp was just running circles around the outside
