Use as little gain as needed.

To figure true direction when you are getting two reading that are 180 apart,  move to another spot.  Your dogs are where the direction of the one of the orginal 180 was pointing and where the new signal is pointing.  I would bet that the dogs are close when  this is happening.  If you can get a strong siganal on the short range switch, just put the system up.  On short range you should be able to hear the dogs if they are bayed and they should be able to hear you if you call.  Wind will affect your ability to hear.

You can email me and I can talk you thru this.  I doubt if you have equimpment problems, but I can be wrong.
