Reading these posts by Charles and Reuben exemplifies the challenge of wanting less government, less subsidies ... but keep supporting my industry. This is the Tea Party challenge too.
Just today, there was an article in the paper about farm subsidies ... rice was the highlighted crop. The farmer was "conservative" but railed against cutting rice subsidies. Now Reuben wants lower fuel prices but not at the expense of oil industry jobs so he would prefer an oil industry subsidy.
It is a conundrum ... and more than a little fascinating to observe. Oh, btw, in the interest of full disclosure and a likely feeble attempt to not be a hypocrit ... I make my living by navigating the tax code. Therefore, I do not support simplification or elimination, etc. I guess we all have our own special interests we want protected.
