Chances are you will be glad you got those pups if you do

With the days of small, open pastures some cowdog lines have lost the hunt.  So the hunt could be lacking but you said previous generations were used for hog hunting, so I would not think the hunt was bred out of them in one or two generations.  If it was there in the first place.  AND in my opinion, to be considered a good cowdog it needs to have some hunt in them.  Also, depending on how and where they get used.....alot of cowdogs are bred to have alot of hunt in them.  Cows hide in the brush just like hogs do.  The fact that the parent's are working cow dogs means that most likely, a strong livestock working instinct is still there and thats a +++ in my opinion.

Ask about the cow dogs and see if they will range out and locate cows when need be.  Where they made cowdogs becuase they lacked the hunt to make a hog dog?  If thats the case then you may not want to go that route.  Or does this line of dogs have a history of being used both ways?    Also, see if you can find out about the previous generations that were hog dogs.  If they had a strong hunting instinct to start with, its not likely to be lost in a few generations of cow dogs.
