Soak it with water, use saddle soap and clean it good. The water will open the pours of the leather. Let it almost dry outside then use Lexol.
Neatsfoot oil is just that "oil" it ill soften but dry leatther will just soften but stl crack when ya bend it.
Lexol is leather conditioner and will soften and condition the leather while oiling it.
