I also put my stock shocks to the stiffest position.  It you put an additional shock or straight bar, it should not be too much of a difference becuase the rear suspension is independent. 

Rather than add an aftermarket type shock like you mentioned, I would look at purchasing stiffere shock from and aftermarket dealer.

I am no mechanic...
