What if the dog turns out to be Super Man and he is not bred like what you think he is someone just told you what you wanted to hear . He is one of them speical breedings his daddy was ok dog his momma was a ok but both his grand sires were pure doo doo and the grand maws were just ok and behind that nobody knows but this dog is Super Man himself he is the greatest dog you ever seen its just one of the crap shoots one in a million that hit . Now you think he is bred one way and he is not he was just sold by a breeder that wanted to make money and either hung paper on him to get the big bucks are from someone that dont have paper and is just telling you he is off this dog are that dog.
Now you take Super Man breed him because he is a great dog to all your bitches sure you may get yourself a few dogs that are good dogs your dogs gene pool sare strong so you breed him again you get a few more that are good dogs then you take those dogs and breed them back into your yard all the sudden your gene pool cant handle the trash thats in his and you get ten pups 8 are culls another liter you get ten pups and nine are culls now his gene pool spread all over your yard because you bred him because he was Super Man and someone lied to you about his bloodline and sold you a great dog with a rank cull bloodline behind him. Now you got his gene pool all over your yard and you are scratching your head saying what in the hell has gone wrong never knowing what just happened.
you are right...introduce new blood very carefully...if it don't nick then sell all the pups and look elsewhere...if it works then get the best pup from that cross and breed him or her once into the line...this will give 25% new/fresh blood and look for the offspring to breed but breeding the 3/4 again is ok as long as you watch it carefully...because you don't want to lose all those years of breeding your line...it doesn't take much for it to not be your line with a few bad moves in a breeding program...
