I wouldn't get rid of him either. He was behaving naturally after all. Check your local laws as someone else mentioned. Where I lived last, cats were not allowed to be free roaming either, and if that were the case where you are, you would not be fully at fault. For it to have been a $400 cat, it had to be a 'purebred' like a persian or something like that. They better be producing receipts. Also, if they cared about their dang cat so much, why did they allow it to free roam, where it coulda been hit by a car, attacked my loose critters, etc.
