I've heard both sides on this debate and I was raised to beleive that they get fat any lazy and loose thier desire when you cut them. However, I now beleive the opposite to be true. I don't think it takes the hunt out of them just gets thier mind on the right kind of business. It might make them gain weight easier but that just means you can hunt them harder, and if they are put up for a few weeks just cut back on the feed. Thats easy to do, and the dog food bill wont be as big.
I recently read up on this because I have a male dog that I was considering cutting. I dont plan on breeding him and it would get his mind off marking and breeding and more on hunting. Also this dog is a bit spooky and I thought it would chill him out a little bit if I cut him. But I found out that the opposite is true. Cutting a dog that is shy or skiddish usually makes them worse. A lack of testosterone can lead to a lack of confidence in dogs that are shy. But, with Dog agressive males or dominant dogs that need a reality check, cutting them would get the job done, and you wont have any accidents.

. Not to mention if a gyp comes in heat don't leave them at home leave the stud dogs at home and bring the cut dogs.
