He stays hunting under 150 yards unless he's on a track or down wind. I have to disagree with the 95 percent of dogs are short range. Nothing personal but if u get any line of dog that's worth two scents your going to have dogs that will range out fairly far. It also in my mind depends on the dogs prey drive if a dog has a great nose but has little interest then it doesn't matter but if u have a dog that has a high prey drive then they'll range out further even without that good of a nose and in my mind that's how the jagds have earned their reputation.
