What I get sick of is when I see people actually complain about dog aggression or high prey drive in the american pit bull terrier. You cannot train the genetics out of a dog, no matter how hard you try. Yes, some folks can and do start early with their bulldogs to condition them to be tolerant of other dogs while out hunting....and that is great, because they sure do make some great catch dogs. But you can STILL never fully trust a bulldog not to fight, and he/she can surely finish one if provoked. If people want a dog park/dog pack friendly kinda dog, the APBT is not the breed for you. In fact, I have found that there ALOT of folks out there that have no business even owning one. It's like, buying a beagle, and getting pissed or bi*ching at the dog because it wants to take off and trail scents all day. Not to offend or be condenscending to ANYONE'S dog in any way, but blue dogs seem to work pretty well for CD's because they typically are watered down and/or crossed with mastiff somewhere down the line, hence the higher level of dog tolerance. NOT to say a blue dog can't be dog aggressive. My own mother in law owns a blue Am Staff that will jump on any and every dog she can if given the chance., but it's definately not as common. Plus, "game" is a word that is VERRRRRY over/mis used nowadays. It's confusing to me that people who want dog tolerant/cold bulldogs actually go seek "game bred" or battle bred lines. I run old school blood, that's not very common anymore, and I do use a couple of these dogs to catch, but the couple I do use have to be crated seperate from the dog box, and led in to the bay. When they hear that hog they know what time it is. I enjoy using my bulldogs as catch dogs, but all in all I know and understand and accept what breed they are and what they are capable of, and I do not and will not ever fault them for it.
