I guess I should have stated what I was after.  I have a catch dog that is ridiculously trainable.  Never seen a dog with such a strong desire to please.  My hunting spots are on the smaller side so I am looking to cross him to something for some short to med range rcd.  The kicker is that I want them to LISTEN to me.  I will prob go with a pointer or a gsp due to toughness and stamina. 

Really I was wondering if bird dogs are actually trainable or just doing what comes natural to them.
