I'd throw some baking soda in the barrel for a few days if you are worried about the smell. Unfortunately plastic holds smell for a long time. I've had a few 5 gallon buckets that were used to store pickles now for 2 years and every time I open em up they smell just like some Kosher Dills. LOL!
