i know she layed on one. The others she seperated in one particular corner of the whelping box. Id move em back to her and she would put em back in the corner.

I had a gyp do the same thing. I would move the pups back and she would move them away again. After 3 or 4 times she bit their heads off. I asked a couple old dog men about it and they both said that a gyp can tell when there is something wrong with a pup and they separate them to let them die. Asked an old veterinarian about it and he said the same thing. Makes sense but if that was the case then Catahoulas would have been extinct years ago. Haha!
