Had a kid hunting with me several years ago nearly step on one. Three of us walking to a bay in a stock pond. No lights just walking under a bright moon.  God's hand was on us that night. I looked down, stopped the kid in middle stride. Turned a light on and there was one about 2' long.
Had another time that I was on my hands and knees crawling up a steep creek bank to a bay. Came face to face with one of the biggest I've ever seen. Probably 6' foot with  a head as big as my fist. Didn't take long to slide down to the bottom of the creek either.
Now days I carry tongs and a box with me all summer. If anyone watches the TV show with Jackie Bibby, you have probably seen the episodes with the 95 year old lady? Love to see the smile on that lady's face when I go by and drop a big one in her cage. Have even taken her on some hog hunts.
