I know there are people that feel differently but I believe ANY hog can be stopped. There are certain things that have to fall into place though....a couple of key factors if you will.

First and foremost....the number one factor is  terrain. Terrain will dictate whether its gonna happen or not. If its a real bad runner in thick jungle briars, lol...well...its probably not gonna happen...the dogs just dont have the room to work the hog like he needs to be worked. You just gotta hope he feels secure in that spot and stays there, which...by definition...a bad runner wont, lol. Now.....take the same hog and let him get caught out in the fields or wooded bottoms or mesquite pastures where its relatively open and that hog CAN be stopped.

The second factor is the dog. Im not talkin about catchy dogs either. Im talkin about a couple or three dogs that lay teeth and back out or circle...lay teeth and back out or circle. Not getting so far out that he cant get back in as soon as the hog spins at another dog and do it again. Im talkin about dogs that KNOW how to work a hog. They just spin that hog like a top. Its a sight to see....I've seen a bad hog SITTING on his nuts and spinning in circles. It was great!

The dogs I'm specifically referencing aren't even around anymore and i asked the guy about the blood and he said he didn't really realize what he had at the time. Again....these dogs weren't Kamikaze rough but stayed tight on hogs even in thick brush. Of course this caused some wrecks but there weren't many hogs that got away. Unfortunately he bred the tightness out of them and now he wishes he hadn't. I think you can find these kind of dogs still but they are few and far between.

For those of us that Hunt strike and bay dogs It's a fine line to walk. I personally am working towards something in between a RCD and a typical bay dog. How tight is to tight? That's the question I guess.
