We usually hunt from midnight to morning, bring an icechest full of cold water just for the dogs, let them wind from the ranger, and take them to water holes to get in and cool off in between runs. Try to keep them in shape and keep a close eye on them for signs of over heating. We also keep a couple of bottles of rubbing alchohol in the cut bag for emergencies.
But keeping them wet at all times seems to be a good prevention.
