I think it also has to do with the type of dogs your running mine will catch if they  can and that is another reason I go to the older ones.  If I knew my dogs would back off for sure then yeah would not be so bad but I have seen two of mine take on 200 lbs with just the right teeth to kill you.  With dogs like that to me its just safer for them.
