There are actually two strains. Northern & southern strain. One of my dogs got the northern strain, when I was bearhunting in wisc. It actually took a few months for it to show up, so while your dog has tested positive, there is a dorment stage. My dog got real lethargic & could not run a 1/4 of a mile & had to lay down, & that is when I had bloodwork done on him. Dont remember the antibiotics he put the dog on, but he also prescribed a syrup that had a lot of iron in it. It took a couple of months & he came back, but once a dog has it, they keep it. It will go dorment & then it will pop back up.
I thought we had ticks down here but we dont have anything compared to the ticks they have up north. You go thru the woods up there, you will pick 50 or more ticks off of you.
  Good luck with your dog.
