The vets around here (saw ark/north LA) offer a shot that is a heart worm preventative. It is good for 6 months. It is very convenient and they will send you a notice before its time for your dog to get its next one. All my dogs have been on them for probably 3 years now. Never had any problems. I do that and give panacure about ⁴ times a year
